Moving your child mid-year without losing ground

Mid-year transfers work when the placement is right. Here is how we check, what we ask for, and when it is better to wait for the next term.

Families move mid-year for all sorts of reasons: relocation, a school that stopped working, health, or a timetable that cannot bend around something important. A transfer can go smoothly, but it depends almost entirely on getting the placement right.

We ask for the most recent school report and run a short placement check in English and mathematics. This is not an entrance exam and nobody is turned away for a weak paper; it tells the teacher where to start.

Places open at the start of the winter and spring terms. Joining at a term boundary means your child starts a unit with everyone else rather than arriving halfway through one.

Sometimes the honest answer is to wait. If a student is eight weeks from an end-of-course examination at their current school, finishing it is usually worth more than an early transfer. We will say so.

Tuition is charged from the term your child starts, not the full year, and the enrolment pack lists the books and materials needed for the rest of the year.

Thinking about the next school year?

Look through the grades, or talk to admissions about your child. A call takes twenty minutes, costs nothing, and we will tell you honestly if we are not the right school for them.
