Learning at home
Reading at home that actually moves the needle

Twenty minutes a day beats an hour at the weekend. What to do when your child can read the words but not remember the story.
Reading is the subject where home makes the biggest difference, and the advice is unglamorous: short, daily, out loud in the younger grades.
Twenty minutes a day beats a long weekend session, because fluency is built by frequency. In kindergarten through grade 2 that means reading aloud to an adult who corrects gently and asks what happened.
If a child decodes accurately but cannot tell you what happened, the problem is comprehension, not phonics. Stop every page and ask one question. It slows reading down on purpose.
Choice matters more than level. A book slightly below level that a child wants to finish builds more fluency than a correctly levelled book they resent.
Tell the teacher what you are seeing at home. The weekly reading check catches a lot, but you see the book that got abandoned on page three.

Look through the grades, or talk to admissions about your child. A call takes twenty minutes, costs nothing, and we will tell you honestly if we are not the right school for them.
